Upcoming Sexual Harassment Workshop

January 22, 2007

Dear students, parents, and guardians:

As part of Trillium’s commitment to providing a healthy, safe, and supportive environment for all of its members, all high school students and staff will take part in a mandatory training this week about sexual harassment. We are canceling regularly scheduled classes during B3 and ILP period, 12:30-3:15, on Thursday, January 25th in order to make this happen.

Unfortunately, this is a real and relevant problem for young people today. According to a study by the American Association of University Women Educational Foundation, 80% of 8th – 11th grade boys and girls have experienced sexual harassment.[1] The upcoming workshop will give students strategies for recognizing and dealing with sexual harassment by helping them become aware of what it is, how it affects people, and what they can do about it. The workshop is required for all high school students. Students may receive Health credit for completing the session in the same manner as they can for the High School Fridays.

We are fortunate to be a part of a small, intimate community at Trillium. We have the invaluable ability to know each of our students well, and are able to quickly recognize their needs and address them efficiently and respectfully. We look forward to the upcoming workshop as a way of further understanding and supporting our students.

High school advisors would be happy to answer any questions you may have about this. Please direct your queries to them.

Regards,

High School Staff
